De Beauvoir: Parametric joinery, modelled in Solidworks
As well as the larger projects, I equally enjoy working on smaller joinery jobs and being able to bring my experience of 3D CAD to really get a design solution to a point of excellence and help the maker achieve the best possible results.
One example of this are these pull out wardrobe units for a private client of furniture maker Lawrence Goodwin.
Modelled in Solidworks, I was able to validate the functionality by getting the drawers and units to actually pull out and then, from the 3D model, publish full bill of materials information for populating a cut-list.
For me I have two primary motivators: one is to get a design to fulfil its potential if not exceed expectations. The other is to smooth as much as I can the making process and do so through clear and precise manufacture information.
